Baked Custard Recipe
This recipe for Baked Custard serves 4 people.
Time required: 40 minutes
(5 minutes to prepare, then cook for 35 minutes)
Ingredients you'll need:
- ½ cup of cream
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- ½ brown sugar, soft
- 1 ½ cups of milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 ground nutmeg, for dusting
How to make Baked Custard:
- Preheat Oven to moderate 180°C. Brush a 4-cup capacity oven-proof dish with melted butter.
- Whisk eggs, sugar, milk, cream and vanilla in medium bowl for 1 minute. Pour into prepared dish.
- Place filled dish into a shallow baking dish. Pour enough hot water into baking dish to come halfway up the sides. Place on oven shelf, sprinkle top of custard with nutmeg; bake for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 160°C, bake for another 20 minutes or until custard is set and a sharp knife comes out clean when inserted. Remove dish from water immediately. Serve warm or cold.
Storage Time; Mixture can be prepared several hours ahead. If serving warm, cook just before serving. If serving cold, custard can be cooked a day in advance. Store, covered, in refrigerator.
HINT; Serve custard on its own or with fresh, poached or canned fruit.
